July 11, 1991: Former Kitutu East MP George Moseti Anyona and three others are jailed for seven years each for holding a seditious meeting with intention to overthrow the government. Senior Resident Magistrate Francis Mabele also sentenced Anyona to four years for two counts of possessing seditious documents and prohibited publication. Embu Kanu official Augustine Njeru Kathangu also got four years for possessing seditious documents and 18 months for two other counts. All the sentences would run concurrently. The others jailed were Prof Edward Akong’o Oyugi and Isaiah Ngotho Kariuki.
